Deborah Rogers is an economist from Fort Worth, TX.  She talks about the economics of hydrofracking, detailing the facts behind the statement that shale gas drilling is a ponzi scheme.

This playlist was put together for the Evening of Fracking, Forums, and Fizz at the Palace Theater in Syracuse on 9/21/2011.  People found it very informative so we've shared it here for everyone to watch!  There is about an hour of 3-10 minute videos in this list, and I will continue to add more as we find them.

An Izaak Walton League Chapter in Pennsylvania has initiated a water testing program primarily to establish base lines in streams in areas subject to hydrofracking.  Their video is about six minutes long and comes across as a real effort by sincere people to protect our water.

Jeff and Jodi Andrysick are farmers in the Town of Pultney, NY who were woken up to the issue of hydrofracking when Chesapeake tried to locate a deep injection disposal well in their town in 2009.  They spent their own savings to make this film.  Looking past some of the cheesy skits, this is Gasland for Pennsylvania and NY, featuring interviews with many of the affected residents and experts.

Earth Focus is an environmental news magazine that puts a human face on the environment by featuring under-publicized stories about how changes in our environment are affecting everyday people.

Gasland has been nominated for an Oscar!  And the gas industry is predictably doing everything they possibly can to discredit the director and the information presented in the movie.  Here's a reaction to the hoopla from DISH, TX mayor Calvin Tillman. 

This was a roaring success, with over 400 people attending!  Now that I've actually seen it, I can tell you, it's well worth your time to watch.  Even as someone who thinks I know the issues, I still found things to learn.  The director's dry humor is perfect, making it an entertaining movie, as well as educational.

Split Estate is an Emmy-winning (2010) documentary about the effects of gas drilling out west, zeroing in on Garfield County, Colorado, and the San Juan Basin.  It is a clarion call for accountability, and examines the growing environmental and social costs to an area now referred to as a “National Sacrifice Zone."

"Split Estate" refers to the discovery of many landowners out west that they do not own their mineral rights, and have very little say over the drilling.  Thankfully, here in NY landowners retain their mineral rights, and can choose not to lease.  However, the impacts to air, land, water, and community depicted in this film are quite relevant to the hydrofracking proposed for NY.
